For four Evans High School seniors, what began as a golf clinic turned into something much bigger, a surprise that left them speechless and their families beaming with pride.
It took place during Evans High School's annual Trojan Senior Awards, a celebration of hard work and bright futures. As their names were called, each of those four students crossed the stage to receive a $7,500 scholarship - a moment made even more significant by the individual presenting it: Maurice Allen, world long drive champion, Evans High alumnus from Pine Hills.
"This community made me who I am," said Maurice Allen, world long drive champion. "Coming back to invest in these students - kids who walk the same halls I did - that's what it's all about."
The scholarships were awarded to seniors who participated in MPower, a six-week golf clinic hosted by Hilton Grand Vacations and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida in collaboration with Allen. The clinic featured golf sessions focused on mental resilience, strategic thinking, and overcoming challenges, with Allen coaching participants directly.
The program concluded in advance of the 2025 Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions, where some of the biggest names in sports and entertainment competed alongside top LPGA Tour players in one of golf’s most unique events. Hosted here in Orlando, youth participants were invited to attend the tournament and watch world renowned golfers execute many of the skills they learned during the youth clinics while experiencing a sneak peek at the many jobs behind the scenes.
"Investing in our youth is investing in the future of our community, and programs like these provide financial support and empower young people with the skills and confidence they need to succeed," said Hannah Vazzana, executive vice president, chief brand & communications officer at Hilton Grand Vacations.
The partnership between Hilton Grand Vacations, Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida, and Maurice Allen exemplifies a shared dedication to giving back to the community and creating long-term impacts on youth development through the love of golf and beyond. This collaboration has been a testament to the power of sports in teaching valuable life skills and inspiring the next generation.
Congratulations to the four scholarship recipients: Ronaldo Charlius, Karl Duperval, Diana Joseph, and Evenst Menos.
