Evans Community Partnership School Updates

A New Pathway for Trojans On a visit to the Valencia College Heart of Florida United Way Center for Accelerated Learning, students were able to learn firsthand about the available programs, including

welding, medical assistant training, carpentry, warehouse management, and apartment management. Students had the chance to try their hand at these skills, including using

the virtual reality welding simulator, learning how to repair an electrical outlet, trying to remove medical gloves without contamination, and operating a warehouse forklift. Many students were so excited about their visit that they completed applications for the programs upon returning to Evans.

Evans Students Figure Out Their "Next Steps" in Hands-On Sessions with Community Leaders

In March, the 2nd Annual "Next Steps" workshop series for 100 Evans High School graduating

seniors was held to help them solidify their plans for post-graduation. Presenters from Walt Disney World, Elevate Orlando, and Valencia College shared great information about interview skills and résumé writing, elevator pitches, and Campus Life 101. Students were also able to work on scholarship essays and FAFSA completion, and one lucky senior won a brand-new laptop computer!

New Partnership Provides Students with Options for After Graduation

Knowing exactly what you want to do after high school can be daunting. Many seniors struggle with the decision to go into the workforce or to continue their education. A new collaboration with Jobs Partnership of Florida aims to help. For the first time, Jobs Partnership is hosting its 12-week LifeWorks course at Evans for seniors unsure of what they want to post-graduation. With personal job coaches, lessons on resumes, interviewing, career resource fairs, and soft skills training, students will be well prepared for what comes after high school.
